Juxtapoz Projects

Juxtapoz Projects is a multifaceted platform for emerging and established contemporary artists. Through bold programming and innovative collaboration, Juxtapoz Projects manifests its dynamic curatorial vision across three different arenas: a gallery space, a bookstore, and a residency program. An enterprise of internationally recognized art and culture magazine Juxtapoz, which has become a beacon for the underground art scene since its founding in 1994, this is the media brand’s first permanent physical base.

Fostering a new generation of painters, sculptors, photographers and new media artists, Juxtapoz Projects Gallery is a space for progressive and inclusive programming. Quarterly exhibitions, staged to coincide with the release of each new issue of the magazine, will feature a wide range of artists from diverse backgrounds. The inaugural show gathers work by 28 New Jersey and New York-based artists for a dynamic showcase of painting, sculpture, and illustration, opening October 2018.

October 14–November 30, 2018

Riley, Sarah Slappey, Justin Cole Smith, Kevin Umaña, Paul Wackers, Shane Walsh, Emma Webster, Derek Weisberg, Brian Willmont, and Bryce Wymer.

Directly adjacent to the gallery, Juxtapoz Projects unveils a new bookstore and retail location. Stocking issues of the magazine, compendia, editions, and artist-made objects, the store features a wide array of independently published reading material and other products, functioning as a promotional platform for young artists, publishers, and book producers.

Lastly, Juxtapoz Projects debuts its first artist-in-residence program, situated on the basement level of Mana Contemporary alongside Mana’s own artist tenants. Juxtapoz Projects will select two artists every three months to produce a series in the shared space, then display their work upstairs in the gallery. Rotating year-round, the residency is committed to promoting every kind of artist and establishing a space in which collaboration and inclusivity are valued.
